I was 16 and in my sophomore year when I dropped out of high school. It was hard to get a good job without a diploma. I went on to get my GED years later. That GED helped me with employment, but never got a job I wanted or would be proud of. I got married and went on with life, but I always felt like I was missing out without the actual diploma.

Several years after getting divorced, I wanted to better myself and try to get that diploma. After using Google to research adult high diploma options, I came across the Excel Center. They offer adults like me the opportunity to get their Core 40 diploma. I started the Excel Center in term 1, 2020. They were really understanding and helped me whenever I needed it. It took two 8-week terms to get the two years’ worth of credits I needed to fulfill the requirements for the Core 40. I took a couple of classes in person and the rest online. Before term 3, they offered me the chance at getting a certification to help me in the workforce. I chose the pharmacy technician certification.

The pharmacy technician classes were totally online and with Zoom. Katie of KLR Pharmacy Technician Training School was the instructor. She was very knowledgeable and caring. She always made sure you were comfortable with the material and gave extra help via math labs, extra study materials, etc. After the 8-week class, I took my national exam. I passed my first time out and now NHA certified pharmacy technician. Goodwill Industries (sponsors of Excel Center) even helped and paid for my test and to get my license. Before I even finished the course, I was hired by CVS. In my first week of training, I was certified as an immunizer and will go to clinics and long-term care facilities to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.  In February 2021, at 46 years old, I graduated from the Excel Center with my Core 40 diploma with honors and have a certification as a pharmacy technician. I know my life will be more enriched because the Excel Center allowed me to earn a Core 40 diploma and Katie with KLR Pharmacy Technician Training School allowed me to earn a career.
